Who we are:
Alect Seeds is a two-generation family run seed farm at Three Hills, AB. Garry and Karen Weigum have been seed growers for 30 years. Their daughter, Sarah, started working on the farm full time in 2011.
Garry was raised in town, but knew he wanted to be a farmer since he was young. He worked as an electrician in the oilfield to support his farming habit until the farm could support him. He is the architect and engineer of numerous farm projects and as the only person on the farm with any mechanical expertise he is as busy as a one-armed paper hanger when the machines start rolling.
Karen grew up on a mixed dairy and grain farm in the Three Hills area. She is as good a cook as she is truck driver and if you come to pick up seed in the spring, she's probably the one who will load you out.
Sarah went off to university and lived in BC and Ontario before deciding that the farming life was for her. She likes tinkering with marketing projects, operating equipment and serving on agricultural boards. She is willing to try anything. EXCEPT welding.
